Women’s History Month and Beyond
As we celebrate Women's History Month, we honor the remarkable contributions and wisdom of women who have shaped our understanding of justice and empowerment. At Shared Roots, we strive to recognize and uplift the communities that originally built, nurtured, and modeled the healing-centered models of justice that we use today. We acknowledge the ongoing impact of activists, organizers, and visionaries from Indigenous, Black, and other historically marginalized communities. Their resilience in the face of injustice continues to inspire us as we apply restorative and transformative frameworks.

Honoring Black Women's Wisdom
We recognize the invaluable contributions of Black women, not confining our celebration of their achievements to just one month. Our co-founder Christine Evans wishes to highlight and thank three extraordinary Black women whose wisdom has shaped her understanding of justice:
  • Dr. Angela Davis: A pioneering thinker and advocate of transformative justice, Dr. Davis's work challenges traditional notions of justice and empowers survivors.
  • Mariame Kaba: An organizer, educator, and activist, Mariame Kaba's contributions to restorative and transformative justice movements have been invaluable in advocating for community-based accountability.
  • Dr. Johonna McCants-Turner: As a professor and scholar, Dr. McCants-Turner's teachings on racial justice and restorative practices have profoundly influenced our approach to justice and activism.
We are profoundly grateful for the wisdom and guidance of these women and others who have shaped our understanding of restorative and transformative justice. We hope our work at Shared Roots Mediation can fully honor their visions for justice.
